The saying that there is life after football has been brought home as a former national team player has showed that there can be life after football by becoming a businessman.Former Liberian international striker, Arcadia Martin Wesay Toe, since hanging his boots, has now become a reputable businessman. He has changed a past trend when professional footballers turned out to disappoint those who were determined to follow their examples. His business is known as the Arcadia M. W. Toe Incorporated with two branches in Liberia and Japan.Arcadia’s company is deals in used cars, tires and engines and a host of devices, including laptops, iPods, mobile phones, etc.Established in December 2014 in Japan, the Arcadia M. W. Toe Inc., went through a rigorous check by Japanese authorities before officially licensed and it is reported to have a huge investment, since it began operational one and half years ago.Besides used cars, and other devices, the company is also engaged in Real Estate in the Township of Brewerville outside Monrovia.Arcadia Toe, who arrived in Liberia a couple of days ago from Japan told reporters that he is aware that no one plays football his entire life and he prepared for life after active football.“I trained as an auto mechanic in Japan and worked on vehicles,” Arcadia explained. The former footballer said through careful planning, he chose to get into business. In a dispatch from Japan, on June 6, Liberia’s Ambassador to Japan, Youngor S. Telewoda was thrilled when she visited Arcadia Toe at his business center saw a plethora of items ready for market. With a hardworking Japanese staff and some Liberians, Arcadia noted that plans are underway for trips to be made by staff from both countries, particularly his Liberian staff to upgrade their skills in Japan. As a former footballer, Arcadia also hinted that he intends bring into the country footballs and boots from Japan for sale at affordable prices to local clubs in Liberia. He is currently doing his ‘A’ Coaching License course, along with sports management and may likely manage a club on the local scene. He said several containers from Japan with used cars, tires and engines have since been offloaded at the Freeport of Monrovia. With a website, www.ArcadiaMWToeInc.com, the company’s activities are also on Facebook, twitter and Wassup. With several Liberians in the employ of the company, Mr. Toe has joined the campaign to contribute to the country’s economic growth. As a footballer, Arcadia Toe won two caps for the country’s senior national team, Lone Star against Sudan in a friendly match and a 2006 World Cup qualifier away to Mali where he scored his side’s lone goal in a 4-1 loss.He has scored in the various countries that he has played soccer, including Ghana, Niger, Mali, Sudan, Libya, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. During his last visit to Liberia in 2012, the philanthropist footballer gave close to one hundred pairs of football boots to footballers and held tournaments in several communities with attractive prizes, along with jerseys to sporting organizations. So the truth that there is life after football has come to life and current footballers or athletes can emulate his fine example.Footballers of this generation can learn from him and to be more purposeful in their careers so that in the long run Liberia can have many footballers plying their trade, seriously in the European soccer market.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)
In addition to Los Angeles, the Silver Streak also will take customers to major station stops in Montclair, Pomona, West Covina and El Monte. When the Silver Streak begins service, Friesema said Line 480, which stretches from Montclair to Los Angeles, will no longer travel into downtown Los Angeles. John Fasana, a board member and Duarte City Councilman, said the Silver Streak will help improve transportation in the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys. “This is important for our valleys because it’s going to get people out of their cars and onto public transit and give them a quick ride to work, which will help ease congestion on the freeways,” Fasana said. “If you think about the cost of parking downtown and sitting in traffic, this is really a great savings.” Officials said the Silver Streak will provide daily service running every 10-12 minutes, 24 hours a day. The Silver Streak bus fare will cost riders $2 each way and 31-day passes will be $80. Seniors, people with disabilities and Medicare cardholders can ride for $1. To help promote the new service Foothill Transit is offering free rides on the Silver Streak from March 18 to April 1. Foothill Transit now operates 35 fixed-route local, express and rail-feeder lines, covers 327 square miles, and serves 15 million customers each year. The 60-foot tandem buses will be equipped with free Wi-Fi service to allow riders to do work, surf the Internet or check e-mails. The agency’s Smart Bus Equipment, which includes an automatic vehicle location system, will provide automatic stop announcements, automatic passenger counters, on-board security cameras and station stop bus arrival displays. Briesemeister said the 30-bus fleet also features comfortable seating, capacity for up to 58 riders and provides people with an opportunity to be more productive and relaxed on their commute. Felicia Friesema, Foothill Transit spokeswoman, said the new service will cost $6.5 million per year to maintain operation and will be paid for through state and local funding sources. “The idea was to create a high-capacity people mover to alleviate some of the crowding we were seeing on Line 480, which is our most popular line, and meet the greatest needs, which is why it is stopping at major station stops,” Friesema said. Friesema said the Silver Streak will give riders a quicker commute time by eliminating some local stops that Line 480 makes and by spending only about 5 percent of its total trip on surface streets. Instead, it will travel primarily on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway and HOV lanes. • Video: Silver Streak buses EL MONTE – Foothill Transit is launching what officials are touting as a cutting-edge bus service expected to give commuters a quicker and smoother ride into downtown Los Angeles and other major station stops. Transit officials unveiled the new Silver Streak on Thursday at the El Monte Bus Station and said it will hit the streets March 18. “This is a commuter’s dream,” said Wilfred Briesemeister, Foothill Transit executive board president. “These are not the buses of yesteryear.”
