Drake Athletics Recognizes Student-Athletes For Their Academic Excellence

first_imgDrake athletics honored the majority of its student-athletes on Wednesday, Feb. 17, with the department’s annual 3.0 Recognition Ceremony during halftime of the Drake men’s basketball game.In total, 256 student-athletes were recognizied for achieving a 3.0 or higher grade point average during the fall semester. That represents 69 percent of the student-athletes at Drake University. Additionally, all 18 of Drake’s teams recorded a 3.0 or higher GPA with those teams recording a cumulative 3.23 GPA in the fall semester.Sixty-one student-athletes were honored for having achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester. With all 256 of those honored on the Knapp Center court, the Bulldogs were presented with two additional awards. As an athletic department, Drake received the Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award for the second year in a row. The All-Academic Award is given to the school with the highest overall GPA in the MVC during the 2014-15 season.  More than 90 percent of Drake’s athletic teams that compete in the MVC achieved a 3.2 or higher GPA during the 2014-15 season with 77 percent of Drake’s student-athletes recording a 3.0 or better GPA during that span. Additionally, more than 13 percent of Bulldog student-athletes maintained a sterling 4.0 GPA for the academic year. Collectively, Drake’s MVC teams recorded a 3.42 GPA in 2014-2015. Drake student-athletes also earned a league-high five MVC Elite 18 awards and received a total of 273 academic honors from the MVC. Finally, the Drake women’s cross country team received the prestigious Provost’s Award for the third-consecutive year. The award is presented annually to the team with the highest GPA in the athletic department. Head coach Dan Hostager’s squad recorded a team GPA of 3.77 in 2014-15, the highest in the program’s history.  Print Friendly Versionlast_img
