Drake Cross Country’s Brandt and Fridrich Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

first_imgDES MOINES, Iowa – Two members of the Drake University men’s cross country team were recognized as part of the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team following a runner-up finish at the MVC Championship last week.Drake senior Kyle Brandt and junior Maximilian Fridrich were named to the Scholar-Athlete after the race in Valparaiso, Ind., Nov. 2. The honor is given to any student-athletes from competing teams who finished in the top 20 at the conference meet and maintain a grade point average of 3.3 or above. Eligible student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher in both academic and athletic standing.Brandt finished ninth in the field of 67 runners, while maintaining a 3.74 grade point average off the course in his studies in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology. Throughout his senior season, Brandt has been one of Drake’s top performers, often trading back-and-forth with sophmore Adam Fogg for the Bulldogs’ top scoring position.Fridrich ran second for the Bulldogs taking 15th at the meet. With one year left until graduation, he has logged a 3.47 grade point average studying computer science and mathematics. This marks Fidrich’s third finish as a scoring runner for the Bulldogs this season. His first came with an individual win at the Dan Huston Invitational Oct. 5 and his second, running third for the team, at the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 15. Earlier this season, Fridrich was honored as the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.The team, along with Brandt and Fridrich now set their sights on Nov. 15, when they will travel to Stillwater, Okla. for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet.Print Friendly Versionlast_img
