Burge held Christian Brothers hitless and struck out a season-high 13 in West Florida’s 5-0 win at Wilson Morgan Park. It was Burge’s third career no-hitter and second against a GSC opponent. West Florida (25-20, 5-7) won their second straight, while Christian Brothers (13-17, 5-12 GSC) dropped to 1-6 all-time against West Florida.”I did not pitch as well as I would have liked in the first game, so I used that as a confidence booster,” said Burge. “I pushed myself hard so that I would not be tired.”Burge was spectacular from the beginning, striking out the side in the first inning. She also struck out the side in the third, fourth and sixth innings and struck out six consecutive Lady Bucs at one point. Burge induced pinch-hitter Paige Wright to ground out to third to end the game and complete the second no-hitter by an Argonaut this season. Taren Walton (Pensacola, Fla./Daytona Beach CC) tossed a perfect game against Oakland City on Mar. 19.”It scared me a little to think about the no hitter,” said Burge. “I just tell myself to do the same thing and not change anything. “I know my defense will always be there and I have confidence in them.”West Florida scored all the runs they would need in the top of the fourth inning. Ellen Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa/Central Florida CC) led off the inning with a single, and Julie Carroll (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Liberty Univ.) and Burge followed with infield bunt singles to load the bases. After Christian Brothers pitcher Nikki Dunn retired the next two Argonauts, Ashlee Simpson (Decatur, Ala./Jefferson State CC) delivered a two-run single. A subsequent error on the same played cleared the bases to give the Argonauts a 3-0 lead. Whitney Gay (Cantonment, Fla./Tate HS) completed the scoring with an RBI single. West Florida added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on Melissa Chastang’s (Saraland, Ala/Satsuma HS) first career home run.West Florida will continue action in the GSC Crossover on Friday.
